We all have great intentions when it comes to our health and fitness. We set goals and have a vision of where we would like to be fitness wise, particularly, how we want to look. A few days, weeks, months, even years pass by before we sit back and reflect on why we did not accomplish our goals or why our health is in the same place it was this time last year.
You have heard the famous “My diet starts Monday” and I’ll be the first to admit that I used this a few times before. Or what about this one, “I have to get in shape to do CrossFit”?
The first, although is still an excuse makes a little sense. Sunday most people have off so they have time to meal prep and get ready for the week, right? Well, then comes along “Sunday Funday” and there goes our meal prep time. Monday comes and we are sitting at work hungry and all we have are the donuts mocking us, so we eat one to show them who is boss! Then, come the famous last words… “I’ll start tomorrow”. Why not start now? Start today; start with your next meal. Once you start, the decision to eat healthy becomes easier.
I have to admit that I cringe a little when somebody tells me they need to “get in shape” before starting CrossFit. CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program with the aim to forge a broad, general and inclusive fitness. So to do CrossFit and to get in shape all you have to do is START doing CrossFit!
You are already a member? Then you know that the hardest part of the work out is showing up. Once you are in the gym, the coach guides you through a warm up, we stretch and then we get the workout done. Before you know it the class is over and you feel accomplished and leave feeling like a champ. All you had to do was start!
This rule of starting can be applied to your everyday life as well. Too many visions turn to dreams because there was no action taken. We wait for everything to be perfect. We want everything to be just right before we can start. Real life isn’t perfect. Things are hardly ever “just right”…so we find ourselves never feeling ready to take that first step. I challenge you to take action!
What’s the best that can happen? You succeed? You learn something new and improve each step? You get the results you want?
What’s the worst that happen? You fail? Every success story has a history of failing. The key is to learn from the fails and turn them into your greatest achievements. Take what you learned and start over.
If you don't take action, then what? You have a 100% chance of not reaching your goal.
