Next up in our "Athlete Profiles" series, we chatted with Jon Bren. Jon currently serves with the United States Air Force. He is a Staff Sergeant working as a CV-22 technician. Jon and his wife, Carin, can regularly be found at our 1000 AM classes. Jon has a pretty decent training background, having participated in high school wrestling and football, and currently attends Taekwondo. He's been with us at DCCF for 5 months. Below we hear how he ended up with us here at DCCF, how training affects his job, and what Crossfit means to him.
Name: Jonathan Bren
Hometown: Jacksonville, FL
Favorite Movement: Overhead Squats
Favorite Cheat Meal: Cheeseburgers and cookies
I initially started Crossfit because I had a friend that went to DCCF, and he encouraged me to try it out. At first, I was pretty nervous and apprehensive to check it out. Now, I love it. I enjoy going to the gym every day. The atmosphere and the people around make it that much more enjoyable.
Jon goes on to talk about how his goals have changed over time, what keeps him motivated, and how Crossfit affects life outside of the gym.
I didn't really have any goals or expectations starting out. I just wanted to get in shape, in general. Now, I've set goals to improve on those lifts and movements that I have trouble with. My biggest achievement so far has been getting my ring muscle-ups. Now I'm going 5 days a week, consistently. It (Crossfit) helps me be at that level of physical fitness I need to successfully complete my job and it gives me more energy to spend time with my family. I love the atmosphere, the coaches are awesome and so willing to help you out with anything, and everyone there is so encouraging.
Next time you're in for a morning session make sure to say hi to Jon and Carin. They are a fantastic addition to the DCCF family, and some of the friendliest people we've met! Happy training!
